Venus Williams was coached by her father Richard Williams and mother Oracene Price. She made her professional debut in 1994 at Oakland. In 1997, she had her first full season on tour, finishing No.22 and reaching her first Grand Slam final at the US Open.

In 1997, she had her first full season on tour, finishing No.22 and reaching her first Grand Slam final at the US Open. The following year she finished No.5 and the next three seasons she finished No.3 and won four Grand Slam titles, two at Wimbledon and two at the US Open. In 2002, Williams had her best season to date, finishing at No.2. Since then, Williams has added to her career total 46 WTA singles titles and 21 doubles titles. Williams uses a Wilson Blade racquet strung with Luxilon 4G 125 or Wilson Natural Gut 16 strings.
Williams owns her own Interior Design company, V*Starr, and has her own clothing line, EleVen. She also enjoys art, Asian antiquities, dancing, poetry, sewing, and playing the guitar
